Miller Vest Sew Along



Join VFS Instructor Sharon Clarke and learn how to sew the classic Merchant and Mills Miller Vest. Build your garment sewing skills and have fun sewing in community.

December 7th - 3:30pm-9:00pm
December 8th - 5:50pm-9:00pm

*this is a two-day class. 



Please note: this is a sewing skills and construction focused class, please arrive at class with your pattern and fabric already cut and ready to sew. If you need help selecting a size or are unsure about how to trace or cut out the pattern, please see us at the shop and we will be happy to help you. 


About the pattern: 

The Miller Vest is a softly structured waistcoat with a boxy fit, two welt pockets and a simple stitched belt at the back. Layer up in the winter or wear on its own in the summer in a tumbled linen.

Fabric suggestions - 5-8oz linen, 5-10oz denim, light - medium weight corduroy, wool, wool blends, cotton canvas or twill. For the lining: lightweight wovens such as calico, cotton lawn, cotton, cotton blends, Tencel/linen (when choosing your cloth consider that the lining fabric may be visible).



SUPPLIES NEEDED 

You receive a 10% discount on all materials you are buying for a class.

- Miller Vest Pattern
- Outer fabric and lining fabric (see fabric requirements below)
- Buttons/snaps (snaps from instructor)
- Matching Thread
- Buckle Slider for back sashing (or two buttons)
- Matching thread 
- Lightweight Interfacing 


Please bring your own sewing machine that is in good working order. 
We have shop machines available, just let us know if you'd like to use one when you register for class. 

If you haven't made many garments, we recommend that you stop by the shop and we can measure and help you select the best fabric for you! We are happy to assist you, stop by any time the shop is open. You should pre-wash your fabric for this class.

Instructor Bio: Sharon Clarke is avid garment sewist and loves solving fit and construction issues. Sharon has studied with Kenneth King, Linda Maynard, Sandra Betzina, and Susan Khalje. She loves teaching sewing skills and helping students level up their sewing and garment finishing skills.
