Kurenai Kakishibu Persimmon-Dyed Midweight Canvas

This 100% cotton canvas fabric was imported from Japan. It was dyed with kakishibu (persimmon tannin). This imparts a beautiful brown color on the cotton. It has a lovely organic hue that will darken with age and use. The color of kakishibu dyed items will gradually change due to exposure to ultra-violet rays, oxidation, temperature and humidity. This fabric is dyed so that the fabric has an even, brown hue but remember that this is a natural dye and the color and tone will change over time.

The kaki-Shibu dye also acts as an insect deterrent and prevents mold. Fishing nets and stencil paper are also often dyed with kakishibu due to these reasons.
